Satisfactory academic progress is defined as advancing toward fulfilling requirements for the degree or certificate in a given program of study. For example: A student must successfully complete at least two-thirds of their courses attempted each year in their program of study.
Students on federal, state and institutional financial aid who fail to meet the satisfactory progress criteria or have attempted 90 credit hours or have obtained an AA/AAS degree are not eligible for financial aid. Students wishing reinstatement or to be considered for additional courses must sumbit a Satisfactory Academic Progress appeal to the Director of Financial Aid or designee. Students not receiving financial aid during previous semesters of enrollment must have demonstrated satisfactory academic progress during that time to receive aid. The students total academic history at the institution is used to determine satisfactory progress.
Funds received under all federal and state aid programs must be used solely for expenses relating to attendance or continued attendance at SMCC. Students withdrawing from classes may be responsible for a full or partial repayment of aid monies received. (Request a Refund Policy.)
Students owing repayment for any financial aid program offered by South Mountain Community College are not eligible to receive funds until full payment is made.
