iStart Smart

Welcome to South Mountain Community College

Here’s how you “start smart” at SMCC.

If you are…

  • New to college; and
  • Taking 12 hours or more this semester; and
  • Pursuing your Associate’s Degree; or
  • Planning to transfer to a four-year university,

Your next step is the “iStartSmart” program!

FIRST…complete your online orientation.

Simply click on the link below, and follow the instructions. Pay close attention to “Paying for College” in the First Steps and Financial Aid sections---you’ll be expected to arrange for your tuition payment soon after enrolling that day.

And when you’re done, you’ll receive a certificate of completion. Print and save this certificate---you’ll need it!  The entire online orientation session should take about 20 minutes.

Ready? Then click here: http://orientation.southmountaincc.edu/Pages/Welcome.aspx.

REMEMBER….you’ll need to sign up for assessment tests in math, reading and English, and take them at the college (if you haven’t already taken them at your high school.) Contact our Assessment/Testing Services Office if you have questions, at 602.243.8188.

NEXT….get ready for your “iStartSmart” session at SMCC!

After you have completed the Online Orientation at the website above make sure that you picked a date from the last page (highlighted in yellow).  You’re now ready to attend one of our campus “iStartSmart” orientation sessions. Contact the college at our email or phone number as indicated to reserve your space.

At the session, you will…

  • Meet faculty, staff and students from SMCC who will help you get ready for college;
  • Meet with an academic advisor who will help you select your classes and plan your schedule;
  • Register for your selected classes; and
  • Get your college ID card.

By the end of the session, you will be an SMCC student!

We look forward to helping you start your college journey the SMART way….at South Mountain Community College!
